Supporting the Performing Arts in the Highlands

Earlier this week, we received the following email from music teacher, actress, singer and mistress of the wigs, Beth Kipping:

As some of you may already know, one of the main fund-raisers for the Music Program at Haliburton High School is the Christmas Fruit Sale. Due to inclement weather in Florida the supplier called Melissa Stephens this weekend and cancelled the order. This fund-raiser usually brings in around $700 for enhancing the Music Program. This is quite a blow to the Music Department.

Beth then challenge performing arts and musical organizations in the Highlands to help meet the short-fall. I am proud to say that Highlands Summer Festival was one of the first to step up and make a donation. We joined our colleagues from a wide variety of organization to contribute to the cause. Our congratulations to following donors

  • The Highlands Festival Singers
  • The Highlands Chamber Orchestra
  • The Highlands Opera Studio
  • Highlands Little Theatre
  • The Highlands Male Chorus
  • The Highlands Wind Symphony
  • The Highlands Concert Band
  • Performance Advantage (Jim Love)

The challenge has been answered and as of Tuesday evening (December 16, 2014), within 12 hours of the first email from Beth, some $1200 has been raised in support of the music program at Haliburton Highlands Secondary School.

As Beth Kipping wrote: Let’s send a message to our youth that we care about them by supporting their program.

Hats off to all the groups and individuals who have supported this call and to Beth Kipping for organizing the campaign.
