Minden and Bancroft lads will head up this summer’s cast of Oliver!

Jordy Schell and Carson Winmill will be leading the cast of this year’s Highlands Summer Festival’s musical production of Oliver!.


Carson Winmill, right, has been cast in the title role of Oliver. Carson is the son of Dianne and Cameron Winmill of Bancroft. He is a grade 5 student at Our Lady of Mercy School and enjoys baseball, dodge-ball, gymnastics, loves fishing, math, and performing in class plays. Carson has studied piano and voice for 4 years and is a regular performer at the North Hastings Music Festival. Last summer, he played the role of Carter in the feature film “Dark Sunrise”, which is due for release this fall.

Jordy Schell, left, a Grade 7 student at Archie Stouffer Elementary School is the son of Doug and Lisa Schell of Minden. He has been cast as the Artful Dodger. Jordy has studied dance at the Haliburton Dance Academy and last season was one of a number of young people featured in the opening ceremonies created by Cirque de Soliel for the Pan Am Games.

The award winning musical production has a cast of over 30, including, in addition to Carson and Jordy: Tim Nicholson, Jacob Dobson, Aiden Hill, Brett Boyce, Campbell Boyce, Jack Boyce, Corin Gervais, Charlotte Moynes, Sydney Winmill, Emily Young, Britney Bain, Jenny Moffitt, Amy Leis, Beth Robertson, Tom Regina, Curtis Eastmure, Dianne Winmill, Victoria Bingham, Michael Clipperton, Finn Tentrees, Ruth Carter, Seamus Lynch, Saskia Tentrees, Marilyn Hawley, Angus Sullivan, Christine Jonas-Simpson, Peter Smith, Stephen Thayer and Jack Brezina.

Oliver is one of the most celebrated musicals ever presented on Broadway, nominated in almost all categories and winning for best musical score among other Tony Awards. Based on a story by Charles Dickens, the musical is filled with classic songs that have become standards. The show will feature such memorable tunes as, Where Is Love?, Consider Yourself, I’d Do Anything and Food Glorious Food among many others.

Based on the Dickens novel, the compelling story will engage the audience with its pathos and drama, and delight with its outstanding musical numbers. Dickens’ characters are brought to life with all their facets glowing in this fabulous production.
